foreman 1.14.0-0.1.RC3
foreman_chef-0.4.0

I'm actually working with following whitelist on client-side:

foreman_facts_whitelist ['organization','os','os_version','domain','ipaddress','macaddress']

But it induces an error on production.log:

When i add 'hostname' in whitelist, it's working with no error but the facts are not matching the hostname because sometimes hostname fact is in uppercase.
Is it possible to use the "chef_node_name" fact to match the foreman hostname ?

Interesting, the failure points to place where we detect the operating system. Note that you must whitelist at least following:

foreman_facts_whitelist ['lsb','network','cpu']

Sorry for bad user experience, we should print better error message when some required facts are missing.

So what confuses me is that when you send hostname it starts to work. Maybe that's because it tried to create new resource since it didn't match existing host. The hostname btw should always be downcased, chef_node_name is not - https://github.com/theforeman/chef-handler-foreman/blob/master/lib/chef_handler_foreman/foreman_facts.rb#L43-L54

Hello, here my settings for create:

Create new host when facts are uploaded No Foreman will create the host when new facts are received
Create new host when report is uploaded Yes Foreman will create the host when a report is received

In case of whitelist ['lsb', 'network', 'cpu', 'fqdn']:
- when using reports, it create with hostname (as the nodename in chef) but the facts are only in fact tab.

In case of no whitelist:
- It seems that foreman is using a fact value (fqdn?) to bind the foreman host (if fqdn is not uppercase like on windows hosts).
- If the host was named 'myhostname' it will be renamed by fqdn 'myhostname.exemple.internal'

Foreman bind the host name with 'Certificate Name'. But i don't know how this value is uploaded.

Hello,

It is working fine with this minimal whitelist : ['network', 'platform', 'platform_version', 'platform_family']
So it is solved for me.
