our lab machine is in our office and we like to lessen our impact on other people while also having BLAZING speed from our apt mirrors, so we use a program called apt-cacher-proxy to automatically cache apt repos for us. Also, some machines on some networks might be behind firewalls or something and require proxy configuration. This allows you to set it up on a per-host basis.
