RPM's distribution based installation

We maintain a repository for RHEL and Fedora (and clones) - you may add it via:

Stable

Puppet

yumrepo { 'foreman':
    descr => 'Foreman Repo',
    baseurl => 'http://yum.theforeman.org/stable',
    gpgcheck => '0',
    enabled => '1'
}

Quick and dirty

cat > /etc/yum.repos.d/foreman.repo << EOF
[foreman]
name=Foreman Repo
baseurl=http://yum.theforeman.org/stable
gpgcheck=0
enabled=1
EOF
yum install foreman

Development

1.) For RHEL6 ensure your system is subscribed EPEL:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL

2.) Copy the appropriate repo file to /etc/yum.repos.d

http://yum.theforeman.org/development/el6/foreman.repo
http://yum.theforeman.org/development/f16/foreman.repo
http://yum.theforeman.org/development/f17/foreman.repo

3.) Install foreman and other foreman-* packages to add functionality:

foreman - foreman server
foreman-libvirt - libvirt provisioning support
foreman-ovirt - libvirt provisioning support
foreman-fog - Cloud provisioning support (AWS, Rackspace, Linode, Blue Box, StormOnDemand, and many others)
foreman-vmware - VMware provisioning support
foreman-mysql - MySQL database support
foreman-mysql2 - MySQL database support
foreman-postgresql - PostgreSQL database support
foreman-sqlite - SQLite database support
foreman-console - Console additions
foreman-proxy - Foreman Smart Proxy
foreman-test (dependency rpm's not built yet)
foreman-devel (dependency rpm's not built yet)

5.) Configure

Edit /etc/foreman/settings.yaml and /etc/foreman/database.yml
cd /usr/share/foreman; RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rake db:migrate
chown foreman:foreman db/production.sqlite3 #(if using sqlite)

6.) Start the foreman service or set up passenger

service foreman start
(passenger packages/repos available at http://passenger.stealthymonkeys.com/)

Example RHEL6 setup:

yum install http://mirror.symnds.com/distributions/fedora-epel/6/i386/epel-release-6-7.noarch.rpm
wget http://yum.theforeman.org/development/el6/foreman.repo -O /etc/yum.repos.d/foreman.repo
yum install foreman foreman-proxy foreman-ovirt foreman-mysql foreman-fog foreman-console
vi /etc/settings/settings.yaml /etc/settings/database.yml
cd /usr/share/foreman; RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rake db:migrate
