Description

Cloned from https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1143983
Description of problem:
In the Satellite 6 WebUI, there is a pervasive usage of UI items that can best be described as 'combined button & drop-down' menus.

For the end user, these UI items are confusing. Using the example in the provided attachment (drop-down.jpg) the user can interpret that as

"The current value is 'Certificates' and I can click the selector (the down arrow) next to it, to change that value.

However, the item 'Certificates' is meant for the user to click (directly) to further modify the Capsules certificates.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Satellite 6.0.4

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install product.
2. Browse to a page with one of these UI items. (infrastructure->capsules) is one.
3.

I'm not really sure this is an issue, the idea is that there is a default action, and additional actions.
common actions are one click, the rest are 2+.

I think Rich (original reporter, added to watchlist now) recognises the idea, but is saying that sometimes people don't at first, reducing the usability.

I'm inclined to agree to a degree. I think the principle of one common action and then more advanced actions is good, but perhaps there's a better UI widget for the job. In my experience, people don't realise at first that the dropdown menu contains more actions.

On a related note, I don't think our choice of the common action is always correct or thought through on every page, it could probably be reviewed.
